EnCitE-OGD Holds Learning Workshop in Dumaguete

encite ogd culmination dumagueteThe “Enhancing Citizen Engagement with Open Government Data (EnCitE-OGD) in Negros Oriental” culminated the three-month long implementation through the conduct of a learning workshop. The learning workshop was conducted last March 7, 2015 at the Plaza Maria Luisa, Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental.

The objectives of the workshop were the following:

  • To learn whether civil society organizations (CSOs) were able to produce any output out of the results of the training
  • To identify opportunities and challenges regarding the ability to utilize open data for CSO advocacy or development work
  • To articulate lessons learned or insights from the experience of CSOs
  • To identify recommendations for future capacity building work on open data

This activity consisted of three workshops, namely,  (1) Review of Experience, (2) Identifying Lessons Learned, and (3) Recommendations for Future Actions.  The workshop was facilitated by Mr. Michael “Miko” P. Cañares, Research Lead, and Dr. Dave E. Marcial, the Provincial Research Lead for Dumaguete.

Nine out of the 12 CSOs who joined the first activity were present.  These are:

1. Kristohanong Katilingban Credit Cooperative – Hipolito Quillan, CEO and Gary Rapada, Branch Manager

2. Albiga Agrarian Beneficiaries Multipurpose Cooperative – Reginion Guad Jr, Manager

3. Gender Watch Against Violence & Exploitation – Atty. Sheena Alesna, Executive Director; Lou Shien  Ban Pisan, Finance Officer; and Pauline Louise Flores, Administrative Officer

4. Katilingbanong Pagtagad Alang sa Kauswagan, Inc – Sharon Saguban, Program Coordinator and Nellie Anfone – Finance Officer

5. Young Men’s Christian Association – Julius Tucop, Project Officer

6. Youth Advocates Through Theater Arts – Junsly Kitay, Member

7. Bacong Small Coconut Farmers Development Cooperative  – Janet Barro, Posting Clerk

8. Martin “Ting” Matiao Foundation, Inc. – Dr. Joven Elvira, Administrator

9. PFCO-Visayas – Vincent T. Tapole, Training Staff
